Administrative Message for Missing Teen

I originated this alert a short time ago (as of writing this post.) This is a recording of my original relay, plus a relay from GWES EAS Relay Network southeastern core station ERN/KLT in Miami Florida. (Northeastern core station ERN/JON in Fairfax VA doesn’t relay EAS originated ADRs.)

The hobbiest collective my station is a part of allows participants to originate alerts under certain circumstances. In effect, most commonly it’s done in missing persons cases. The victim needs to be either a minor, elderly or disabled in some manner. Furthermore, while the information must come from authorities, it can not be block-channeled. In effect, the way alerts are sent to mobile phones and broadcast stations through the internnet (called IPAWS, in use since 2012), you can enter blockchannel data to prevent an alert from reaching certain systems. For instance, an authority could issue an alert to smartphones, but set the blockchannel in such a way to prevent broadcast stations from airing the alert. If this happens, we are not allowed to originate these messages.

Furthermore, these messages only air on GWES ERN stations and appear on the Central Alert Repository. These alerts do not, and can not, reach commercial radio or television stations, it’s internal to ERN only.

The alert must be approoved by a member of network operations as well, we can’t just issue stuff willy nilly aside from test messages.
