Until May 2025 the endec that ran ERN/KNA was a SAGE 1822 graybox unit. These began production around 1996 and continued presumably until the introduction of the bluebox in 2008. This was a relay of a WBAP originated Texas AMBEr Alert on March 24, 2025.

The unit is still around, but its likely broken now. Another ERn participant was having issues with his SAGE 1822 and I sent mine to him for him to try and swap parts between, and to use my unit to run his station. However, apparently, mine’s started doing the same random glitching out and rebooting that his was doing, and plus its not urgent that i get it back, I’ve got the DASDEC. My plan for the SAGE is/was, some day, to spin up another station, KNAClassics, which would run music excusively from the 50s to the mid 90s.

    Well darn it, that’s sad.

Well thing is, I’ve never owned a blue box. I’d like to some day, but I bought my DASDEC instead, since the bluebox isn’t as common on the used market, and when they do come up for sale they’re even more expensive. SAGE discontinued manufacturing of them earlier this year, so you can’t buy new ones anymore.

Nice. Also, if you want you could give a presentation of how it is used either on mine or the other blog. I’m talking about the blewbox.

The bluebox is an updated ENDEC from SAGE Alerting Systems, it’s the model 3644. It’s still in wide use in the radio world.

Well, I hope this person is okay. Also, what is / was the blew box?
