This Is Only Three Synth Voices?

My hat is tipped to the Commodore 64 chiptune greats. This particular track is the title screen music from R-Type, composed by Chris Hulesbeck and Romero Vaca.

Keep in mind, at any given moment, there can only be three notes occurring at once, so for chords and the like clever rapid programming tricks had to be used. These folks didn’t play parts by hand or even use something like a sequencing program, they coded their music, byte by byte, pokeing and peeking at chip registers.
